The SCARF, WOOL-KNIT is crafted following a knitting pattern from 1942. During World War II, knitting patterns were distributed for free to encourage knitters to create warm garments for soldiers.
As part of the Knitting for Victory initiative, Red Cross chapters set up Work Rooms staffed by Production Corps volunteers. These volunteers oversaw material management, sewed hospital garments, created bandages, and prepared donated clothing for shipment to the front lines. They also distributed yarn, patterns, knitting needles, and gauges. By standardizing materials, the Red Cross ensured that garments such as socks, sweaters, mufflers, and gloves were consistently made for servicemen.
